Welcome to Nzuzu!

I hope as you read our website you will feel inspired to embrace the you that is waiting to show itself. As you will read on our Nzuzu Name page, you will see that Nzuzu is a mermaid, a water spirit. I have already learned much from my journey with her and I would love to pass on this wisdom to you. I have had this vision of doing global work for a long time. I decided what I wanted was to do work that was led by love and not by fear. Can this really be done? I have seen parts of this in other peoples businesses. I have seen this absence of fear manifest into miracles. I want miracles to come from Nzuzu. I want to see them everyday! I want to bear witness to the courage of people and our wonderful capacity to love. I want to step into this work with that same courageous energy. It has taken a while for me to get here; but I am finally here. I am finally ready to step into the circle of spirits who have gone before me, the circle of spirits who have been led by love, courage and hope.

As I have stepped into this circle, other people have started showing up to take their place. They have shown up as clients, as retreat participants, and as volunteers. This is how it always works, as Marianne Williamson wrote in A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles, "As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." By giving of themselves and choosing to take on their own work they are helping to create Nzuzu. Nzuzu isn't just about me doing my work, it's about the we space, we share as when we come together, it's about creating and sustaining community, and above all it's about transformation. We do this through life coaching, retreats, journeys of learning and providing access to products that support self awareness and self acceptance. So, as we stand holding our place in the circle we also hold an invitation for you to join us. Join the circle of spirits who have gone before you, who have been led by love, courage and hope.

Page 3 So where did we get the name Nzuzu? "Have you heard the story about nzuzu? I mean, the mermaid, that beautiful woman who sometimes drags people into her pool?" Nzuzu's story, our story, is the story of transformation. SESA WORUBAN = transformation"In some pools there is a very, very beautiful woman. She is called nzuzu. This woman can be very dangerous. If there is somebody whom she likes, she will entice him to get close to her pool. And once you get there, she will drag you down into the water. She will then keep you at the bottom of the pool. At first, you believe that she will be nice to you, because she is so beautiful. But once you get down there, she will become very harsh and strict. She will force you to obey her orders, and to eat the kind of food she offers. The food she gives you is black mud, worms, and raw fish." This food represents the wounds that we all experience throughout our life time. The water represents transformation, emotions, and reconciliation. "If you refuse to eat that food, she will never let you get up from the pool again. But if you accept her food politely, and if you obey her strict orders, she will change once more. After you have endured her harsh treatment for a couple of weeks, she will become kind. She will now offer you the most wonderful delicacies, such as rice, and sweet things. Then she will give you a basket with medicines (mushonga = magic "medicines"), and let you leave the pool. You will find yourself lying on a reed mat on the surface of the water. From there you will be able to reach the shore, and walk away with your basket. Thanks to the gifts in that basket, you will now be able to start a new life, and become successful and famous. You can become a n'anga (healer, diviner), or some other kind of artist, and lead a good life. End of the story. (JACOBSON-WIDDING, 1993)" These baskets of gifts are the gifts of the wounds. Every wound comes with gifts, and only when we are willing to walk through the wound will we get access to the gifts it has to offer us. This story goes on to tell us that we can become healers from this journey, this is a reminder that we are all connected and when we step into our healing we not only free ourselves but we have the opportunity to free others as well.

What is Coaching? Coaching has emerged from a wide variety of evidence-based theories found in humanistic psychology, adult development, theories of leadership, theories of culture and cognitive behavior theory, just to name a few. This base helps to provide different perspectives for the coach and clients to view the client’s situation. Because each coaching client and situation is unique it is important for art and science to come together in an integrated way to create a coaching space where the client can grow. Science is necessary to provide an evidenced based practice and art is necessary because evidenced based practice needs the expertise of the coach to quilt together which theory to use for which client during the coaching relationship.What is Integral?Integral means balanced, complete, and inclusive. It’s a way of including as many perspectives as possible. For many years indigenous peoples have been using an integral approach to living. They don’t use the language of integral but they have for a long time been looking at the world from a holistic perspective. Rites of Passage Women Across the GenerationsA Mothers Day Weekend Gathering at Grailville I am what I am./I am a bridge. I am a thread that weaves connections. Rites of Passage Poem, 2009 Grailville Retreat and Program Center in Loveland OH and Nzuzu, are pleased to invite grandmothers, mothers, daughters and women of all ages are invited to a program on Saturday May 7 from 10 am to 1 pm to Women Across the Generations. We will use ritual, creative writing and an experiencing of “Mother Earth” to share who we are as women now, as well as memories and hopes. This activity is part of the Rites of Passage program, designed to support the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual journey of girls on the path to womanhood. Programs help girls make a positive, healthy, self-aware and self-sufficient transition into young adulthood. Women Across the Generations is open to women of all ages. It is led by Quanita Munday, an Integral Life Coach, and director and founder of Nzuzu LLC and Pauletta Hansel, co-Director of Grailville, and a poet and teacher. What is an African American Spirit Healing Journey?

African American Spirit Healing is a journey to remembering self and spirit. The use of the word remembering is very intentional. There is a need to remember, to remember our history, our strength, our journey, our self and our spirit because there has been an intentional dismemberment of those things in our communities. During slavery the plan was to keep the body strong and the mind and spirit weak. In this journey to self and spirit we will strengthen our bodies, minds, and spirits ad in doing so we will remember who we really are and reclaim our self and reclaim our spirits.
